What’s On 2016

Local Democracy for Everyone is a series of events in Huddersfield for anyone who is interested in local democracy. Our main event “We’re not in Westminster any more” – or Notwestminster for short – brings together 80 people who care about local democracy. We work together to create practical solutions for doing democracy in a way that works better, for everyone. Please Join our Notwestminster email network if you’d like to hear about future events.

Local Democracy Maker Day 2015Local Democracy Maker Day

Friday 12th February 2016

10am to 4pm at the Media Centre, Huddersfield

Please come and take part in this practical day to help build a better local democracy. Ideal for digital makers, open data advocates any anyone with an interest in democracy. We’ll talk about the issues and use data that’s already available to quickly prototype something based on our shared ideas. Our aim is to turn our discussions around local democracy and digital into some practical tools that we can all use to make democracy work better for us.

Notwestminster PechaKucha Night

Notwestminster PechaKucha Night

Friday 12th February 2016

7pm to 9pm in Cafe Ollo at the Media Centre, Huddersfield

Join us for a special PechaKucha Night in Huddersfield – a fast-paced evening full of exciting speakers and topics, with distinctly democratic flavour. Each speaker will talk for 6 minutes 40 seconds on a theme of their choosing, following a “20 slides for 20 seconds” format.

PechaKucha is like a more democratic version of a TED talk. Think of it as our hustings and come along to learn something new and be entertained. It’s a fun way to find out what inspires some of our local democracy advocates and to hear about people’s passions and interests.

Want to be one of the speakers? Please email us at notwestminster@gmail.com by 14th January 2016.

Free admission. Licensed bar. Everyone welcome.

Voting stickersNational Voter Registration Drive – February 2016

Our events are happening in the same month as the National Voter Registration Drive.

Many local organisations are campaigning to get people registered to vote – especially younger people who are massively under-represented on the electoral register.

You can drop in to register to vote at many venues across Kirklees, and there will be special events for local students.
